Submission Guidelines
The JN welcomes announcements for baby arrivals, engagements, weddings and milestone anniversaries for placement in our Mazel Tov! Section.
All Lifecycle Submissions may submitted online by clicking on the links below or they may be mailed to the Detroit Jewish News at 29200 Northwestern Highway, Suite 110, Southfield, MI 48034.
There is a $10 announcement fee for Births. Anniversaries, Weddings and Engagements are $18 each. This charge will be in effect for all announcements received after Feb. 1, 2009.
There remains no charge for b'nai mitzvah or milestone birthday (age 90+) announcements. Milestone anniversaries should be in five-year increments.
Birth Announcements
Announcements are open to members of the Jewish community.
Birth announcements must be typewritten, double-spaced and include a daytime phone number of the sender. There is a $10 fee. Please include the date of birth, baby's name, parents' and sibling names and cities of residence for the baby's family and grandparents.
We will accept all announcements as long as they will be able to run before the first birthday. Please check with the editorial department as to current time frame if this will be a problem.
Deadline for birth announcements is 12 PM Tuesday of week before publication (space limitations may delay publication).
Bar/Bat Mitzvah Announcements
Bar/Bat Mitzvah photographs must be submitted with a typewritten, double-spaced announcement on 8-1/2" x 11" paper. Please include name, address and daytime phone number of sender. There is not charge for these listings.
Deadline for bar mitzvah announcements is 12 PM Tuesday of the week before publication (space limitations may delay publication).
Engagement Announcements
Engagement announcements must be typewritten, double-spaced and include your name, address, and daytime phone number. There is a $18 fee. Submitted photos must be of professional quality as determined by our Creative Services Department. We reserve the right to publish in black and white any photos that do no meet this standard.
Restrict word count to 110 for engagements and 170 weddings; the editors reserve the right to edit the announcement to meet this space requirement.
Deadline for engagement announcements is 12 PM Tuesday of the week before publication (space limitations may delay publication).
Please Note: At times we have more announcements than space available in the paper, so it may take several weeks before your announcement is published.
Wedding Announcements
Engagement announcements must be typewritten, double-spaced and include your name, address, and daytime phone number. There is a $18 fee. Submitted photos must be of professional quality as determined by our Creative Services Department. We reserve the right to publish in black and white any photos that do no meet this standard.
We will accept all announcements as long as they will be able to run before the first anniversary. Be sure to check with the editorial department as to the current time frame if this will be a problem.
Restrict word count to 90 for engagements and 160 weddings; the editors reserve the right to edit the announcement to meet this space requirement.

Anniversary Announcements

Obituary Notices
Obituaries are submitted to The Jewish News for those funerals handled by Ira Kaufman Chapel, Hebrew Memorial Chapel and Alan Dorfman Funeral Direction. Families whose funeral has been handled by one of these homes should not contact the paper to place an obituary.
Those wishing to notify the community of out-of-town deaths with a Detroit connection must send in or fax a typed double-spaced notice.
Deadline for announcements is Monday at noon for that week's paper.
