Parve Pleasures
For those who are looking for high quality lactose-free (kosher/parve) ice cream bars, there is a good selection of Rio brand ice cream novelties made in Netanya, Israel, at One Stop Kosher market at 10 and Greenfield in Southfield. Being imported, they’re pricey — but they’re unusually tasty for non-dairy ice cream.

The Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit (Vaad) posted a listing of products that contain dairy, but may be labeled as containing no dairy:
*NESTLE NESQUIK REGULAR CHOCOLATE POWDER, which used to be parve, is now produced on dairy equipment and bears an OU-D. Older containers with a plain OU are pareve.
*SNAPPLE GO BANANAS has been inadvertently labeled OK Pareve. This product is kosher but contains milk and cream (as stated in the ingredients), and is dairy.
*TOFUTTI VANILLA CUTIES RECALL: Tofutti has announced a limited precautionary recall of Vanilla Tofutti Cuties due to possible trace amounts of dairy. This product was produced in a minor manufacturing facility during three days in July 2008, and can be identified by the plant # 360-300 which will appear on one of the end flaps of the box. For a refund, call Tofutti at (908) 272-2400. All Tofutti products, including Tofutti Cuties, continue to be certified Kof-K Parve. Additional safeguards have been put in place to avoid any future inadvertent errors.
*MEIJER NATURALS - WOODSEY WILDLIFE OATMEAL ANIMAL COOKIES and WOODSEY WILDLIFE VANILLA ANIMAL COOKIES were mislabeled with a plain Kof-K. These products are Kof-K Dairy.
*Oreo Cookies with an OU-D do not list any dairy ingredients (such as milk, whey, casein, lactose), do not contain dairy ingredients, but are produced on dairy equipment.
